Precautionary questions about cartilage piercing?
I am hopefully piercing my cartilage on my ear this week (my sports season is over until fall, but that is optional, so it will have time to heal). I have 3 lobe piercings in one ear and 2 lobe piercings in the other… I know weird but anyway… they did not hurt from what I remember, but I just have to ask, will the cartilage one be very painful?
I’m going to a tattoo parlor and will get this piercing done with a hollow needle.
Is there a certain spot on your ear cartilage that hurts less or heals quicker?
Is there anything I should know about gauges ahead of time?
And I think I am allergic to some types of earrings… usually I have to wear gold or I get a little infected, but some earrings are worse than others (that’s in my lobes, though).
And if anyone has any other advice that would be great, too
Thank you!
As for allergies, you should be fine as long as you go to the licensed piercers and tell them this. you will experience a little pain and your ear will get very hot at the site of the piercing as a result of blood rushing to the wound. This is normal.
It will take a few months to heal properly, do not take it out before that time. Ensure you clean the wound with warm salt water, and avoid moving the piercing or rubbing it against stuff! Also let it get lots of air and avoid resting on it, ie during sleep.
Many people’s ears have the thickest part of cartilage near that pointy bit on your ear, that sort of points at the back of your head (like Spock!), and as you go down the edge the cartilage gets thinner and then goes to the fleshy lobe. I would, from experience, advise against getting it pierced on the inbetweeny part that makes up the edge of your ear between top and lobe, because if like me it is quite thin, it can hurt as it heals as there is not much flesh to heal round it.
Other than that, you should be fine. Good luck!!
