Any advice for someone getting a large tattoo?
Hi,
I am getting a rather large tattoo in March. I already have one but it is small compared to this. It is going to be on my thigh, starting at the very top of my outer thigh and going down to almost my knee. Any advice on what I should wear to my appointment, aftercare etc would be great! Also does anyone know how painful this area is to get tattooed? Thanks!
i have a large faiy in that exact area. my advice is to go in sessions. Go for the outline first, and if you can stand the feeling get the shading done too. wait until that heals up and go get the color. Getting it done all at once can cause spotting in the tattoo and so forth because your skin swells and bleeds while getting it done.
As for what to wear to the appointment, i would wear baggy sweatpants or shorts (if you are living in warm area right now. lol by me its freeeeezing!!!!) I would wear soft material (not jeans). Something that wont be tightly pressing against your skin afterwards. And something you dont mind getting stained (the blood and cream can stain your clothes for good.)
Its not too painful…ive had worse. lol. it gets kinda painful more towards the top near the hip and not as bad in the middle….each person is different though so yours may be more or less painful then someone elses.
Aftercare the artist should either give you instructions or a printout of how to care for it (if they dont give you one you can ask them for it). Wash it with soap and water (do not rub it) and let it air dry. once it is dry put a very thin coating of ointment on it (tattoo-goo, a&d, etc etc) do not put too much because it can suffocate the tattoo and cause it to not heal properly. you do that for about 5 days and then start using lotion on it. Anything that is alcohol free or unscented (my artist told me to use lubriderm).
Best of luck to you with your piece of art!!!!!
